The quality of the metal alloy from which the sole is made directly affects its evenness and resistance to friction about wood. The smoother the sole, the more iron the chopped surface will be. The furrows were developed in order to remove air from under the plane of the Rubank and prevent the formation of an “air cushion” when strict. This «pillow» prevents the cut of the same thickness along the entire length of the strict surface.
